Professional Development Awards

Details, terms and conditions, procedure for applications

Eligibility

The Professional Development Awards are aimed at persons who can demonstrate that they have already worked full time in the craft for at least five years.

Reports:

As a condition of receiving the Award, each recipient will be required to submit a brief illustrated report of the tuition undertaken and how it has enhanced their working practices. The organisers regard this as an important record of progress, useful both for the award winner and for the Company.

Organisation

A representative of the Company will be available to advise and support the Award recipient.

Funding:

The tuition provider will be given up to £275 and the student will be given up to £225 subsistence towards living and other expenses (on production of receipts), a total of up to £500 per Award. The Awards will be funded by The Glaziers' Trust.  The tuition element of the Award will be paid directly to the tuition provider.  Should the student wish to undertake tuition above this cost they must provide the difference themselves.  It is intended that these will be concentrated courses, making full use of the time (up to five days) allocated for the training.

Adjudication:

Applications will be reviewed by the Company’s Glass Information Officer and presented for decision to the Craft and Competitions Committee which meets quarterly. All decisions will be final and not open to discussion.  Only one Award will be given to any individual.  However failure to obtain an Award on one occasion does not preclude future application.

Please note that given this adjudication process, applications may need to be submitted  several months before the intended tuition is scheduled.  Awards will not be granted retrospectively for tuition already undertaken.

HOW TO ENTER:

Each candidate must submit:

  • A CV demonstrating that they have worked for at least the preceding five years full time in the craft in the UK
  • A note on work completed (with illustrations, low resolution please for ease of electronic distribution) and an indication of their future aspirations in the craft.
