Sculptural Work – ‘Fringe’

March 2010, 4.5(h) x 40(w) x 50(d)cms, lost-wax kiln-cast lead crystal, cast pure silver & mixed media

This piece is a collage of hollow buildings made from lost-wax kiln-corecast lead crystal glass, foliage and animals made from cast pure silver and plastic as well as coloured scenic powder.

‘Fringe’ is inspired by allotments, the spaces they occupy in urban areas, often existing as a border between the domestic and industrial. Some go unrecorded on maps they have long predated and to the outsider looking in, the sections of land and their caretakers represent a varied cross-section of society.
