Helen Whittaker’s art is in the design and making of stained glass windows and architectural sculptures in copper and glass.
Helen uses skills such as figurative glass painting and traditional glazing techniques, combined with striking geometric designs and three-dimensional sculptures in copper employing modern abstract forms.
Helen welcomes new commissions for Barley Studio to design stained glass and sculpture for secular architectural settings as well as church windows and ecclesiastical artworks.
Helen gained an MA in Visual, Islamic and Traditional Arts at the Prince of Wales’s Institute of Architecture. Helen also has a BA (Hons) from the University of Sunderland in three-dimensional design using glass and ceramics.
She is an Associate of the British Society of Master Glass Painters, a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Glaziers and a Craft Scholar of the Prince's Foundation, having received the prestigious 'Hancock Medal' for her achievements. Helen has won a commission through the Stevens Competition run by the Worshipful Company of Glaziers and Painters of Glass. She was granted a bursary by the York Consortium for Conservation and Craftsmanship.
